U-16 League: Muara Vella Academy thrash Jerudong

MUARA VELLA ACADEMY remained the untouchables when they outclassed Jerudong FC 5-1 yesterday in Group A of the Under-16 National Football League at Field A of the Menglait Sports Complex in Gadong.

Having already booked a berth in the semi-finals of the competition, the Muara side have yet to drop a game after registering eight wins and one draw for 25 points with only a game left in the tournament.

Muara Vella Academy went straight to work in the match yesterday and got their reward in the 15th minute when Md Syazwan opened the scoring for the team.

However, their lead was short-lived as Md Rasyaad equalised for Jerudong in the 19th minute.

Muara Vella Academy got back in front through Zakeus Sinchun in the 22nd minute before Md Jumat Rushdi doubled their lead to 3-1 in the 24th minute.

The game was virtually over when Aminuddin Zakwan scored in the 25th minute to put Muara Vella Academy 4-1 ahead at halftime.

The second half was more equally contested with Abd Muqaddim netting the only goal for Muara Vella Academy in the 50th minute.

"We were confident of getting the result and we managed to do it. We gave the substitutes a chance to play in the second half and I'm very satisfied with their performance," said Mohd Hj Tunjang, the head coach of Muara Vella Academy, in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

"We have done a lot of preparations to get to where we are today, and I believe there's a chance we're going to have to meet our archrivals (Projek Ikan Pusu) in the semi-finals," added Mohd.

Over at Field B of the Menglait Sports Complex, the Menglait Department of Youth and Sports (JBS) Scheme bearly held on for a 3-2 win over Kota Ranger after going into the break with a 3-0 lead.

Md Fakhrul Tamimi opened the scoring for Menglait JBS Scheme in the 15th minute before Ak Abd Muizz Nawawi scored to make it 2-0 in the 31st minute. Md Fakhrul then got his second of the day in the 35th minute to make the score 3-0, seemingly putting the match beyond doubt.

Kota Ranger had other ideas though. In the second half, Md Muhaimin scored a brace for Kota Ranger in the 61st and 70th minutes but despite the valiant effort, it was not enough to stage a comeback.

Meanwhile, the match between the Kuala Belait JBS Scheme and Perkasa was postponed due to technical reasons. However, Kuala Belait JBS Scheme are already through to the semi-finals with 16 points as Jerudong FC only have 10 points with only a game left to play.

The competition continues on Sunday with three matches to be played in Group B with four teams - Sports School, Projek Ikan Pusu (PIP), MPK Setia and Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College (SOAS) - still in contention for a semi-finals berths. The Brunei Times
