Hamilton ready for Alonso-Ferrari rivalry

FORMULA ONE world champion Lewis Hamilton of Britain said he is looking forward to racing against bitter rival Fernando Alonso in a Ferrari next season. No official announcement has been made but the 2005 and 2006 champion, currently with Renault, is strongly rumoured to be moving to the Italian team next season. And Hamilton, who had a fractious relationship with the Spaniard in the only season they spent together as team-mates at McLaren in 2007, is hopeful of renewing their rivalry. Asked what he thought about the prospect of racing a Ferrari-powered Alonso, he said: "It would be a pleasure. It would be a great experience for Fernando Alonso to be in a Ferrari and what a tough competition they would be together. "Ferrari make a great car and Fernando Alonso is a great driver. I'm confident McLaren and Ferrari will be back at the front of the grid and for many years. "I learnt a lot from him when we were both at McLaren and I look forward to competing with him again." Alonso arrived at McLaren in 2007 as the double world champion with then rookie Hamilton just beginning his F1 career. But the young Briton surprised everyone by keeping pace with his illustrious team-mate and their relationship gradually broke down. AFP
