iPhone Boom-Time Over

Singapore - For more than two years, unofficial iPhone retailers at Sim Lim Square and other places have made a killing hawking Apple's popular gizmo at sky-high prices.

But their days of ringing in the big bucks may soon be over - thanks to telcos M1's and StarHub's entries to the local iPhone market later this year. The move will end SingTel's monopoly on selling the popular smartphone.

SingTel snared the exclusive contract with Apple last year, and has since brought in more than 100,000 iPhones. With all three telcos hooking up the gadget for sale, mobile phone retailers which carry iPhones without a mobile subscription, are bracing themselves for a sharp fall in sales.

Prices for the iPhones - usually sold at places like Sim Lim Square and Far East Plaza - are also expected to drop. -- Courtesy of The Starits Times
