Brunei stocks up on Microsoft Windows 7

MICROSOFT’S latest operating system, Windows 7, is now available for purchase in Brunei following the global launch of the operating system yesterday.

Zul Abd Rahman, a representative from Concepts Commercial Suppliers, said that the local community can now get a hold of their copies of Windows 7 at the Concept Commercial Suppliers in either Kiulap or Gadong.

“We have the premium, professional and ultimate versions in stock. These packages come with their respective installation CDs and an original product key,” he said.

“They are selling like hot cakes,” he added.

Zul then used the opportunity to inform the public that the new operating system should have no compatibility issues with computer systems that are no more than three years old.

“There might be problems with operating systems that are older than three years though,” he said.

The Brunei Times yesterday contacted a number of well-known computer supply stores in Brunei, a majority of which still did not have Windows 7 in stock.

In an earlier news report, many of the local reputable computer store representatives said that they had been quite impressed with Windows 7 after having used the system for months.

All of them acknowledged that Windows 7 is better than Windows Vista as it had a better user interface, was more user-friendly, secure and convenient.

“It is also faster when executing programmes and reformatting,” said C F King Project Manager Kareem Rahman.

Sales Manager of PCM PC Customisation Centre, Toby Wong agreed, saying that while Windows Vista and Windows 7 shared many similarities, the latter system is more refined, stable and faster.

“The problem with Vista is that it uses a lot of resources so it slows down considerably with time as you install more and more programmes,” he said.

“Vista is a very powerful system and Windows 7 is just as powerful but it doesn’t slow down as much,”added the sales manager. (Borneo Bulletin)
