Land Force tops orienteering contest

THE Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) team emerged champions of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Orienteering Competition 2009, which held its finals at the Berakas Forest Reserve yesterday.
The competition was one of the annual sports activities for the RBAF, which aimed at strengthening team spirit, testing their physical and mental resilience and endurance and to test their map-reading skills.
Coming in second and third place were teams from Special Forces Regiment (SFR) and Royal Brunei Air Force, respectively.Present to present prizes to the winners was RBAF Commander Major General Hj Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin.
Also in attendance were service commanders, commandant of the RBAF Training Institute, senior RBAF officers and other RBAF personnel.
Major Alirudimi Hj Perudin, chairman of the RBAF orienteering competition, was also present to deliver a short briefing to the participants.
The orienteering competition was divided into six categories, comprising a team category and five other open categories.
In the individual category, 18415 LCpl Hilman from the SFR came in first place.
Meanwhile, the officers' open category for ages 40 and above saw 429 Lt Col Hj Abidin from the RBAF coming in first place while 505 Major Amin of the RBLF won the officers' open category for ages 30-39.
In the officers' open category for ages 29 and below, 8412 Lt (U) Ak Mohd Shari of the Royal Brunei Air Force took top honours with 9441 WO2 Kamis securing the first spot in the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer category for ages 40 and above.In the same category for officers under 39 and below, 12955 Sgt Hj Md Zoolhilmi of the SFR came in first, while the Lower Rank Non-Commissioned Officer and below category also saw the top three spots occupied by SFR officers with the winner being 16853 LCpl Norasrin.
