Brunei's Sumardi Wins Bronze In Int'l Bodybuilding Tournament

Bandar Seri Begawan - Sumardi Jumat make the country proud by pocketing a bronze medal in the 3rd World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF) Men's World Bodybuilding Championships held Jonker Walk in Malacca over the weekend.
Sumardi who represented Brunei Darussalam's Remz Gym was in third place in the Men's 70 kilogramme category.
"All the hard work and training before this championship paid off. I am really happy with the result," said Sumardi who arrived in the country yesterday afternoon.
Six times Mr Universe titleholder, Sazali Abd Samad from Malaysia grabbed the gold medal with 10 points while Thailand's Khuntal Phuangphet was in second place.
Sumardi who is expected to take part in the Pro Amateur Classic to be held in Singapore said he is looking forward to achieve more glory in the future.
"Participants competing in my category are all world class bodybuilders especially (Sazali) representing the host country. By finishing third ahead of Iran's Yousef Karimi and Somkit Sumethowetchakul of Thailand is something I'm proud off," he said and thanked his sponsor Remz Gym.
Adding to the memorable moment, Remz Gym owner, Abdul Karim Abdul Razak, who accompanied Sumardi at the November 9-14 championships awarded Sumardi with $10,000 cash upon arrival at the Brunei International Airport yesterday.
"Sumardi did the country proud and we are happy with his achievement. What he did is not only for himself but for the country," said Abdul Karim.
Abdul Karim said that his gym is willing to help any sports associations or individuals to develop sports in the country.
