Mini national flags to be given out on Feb 14

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - IN PREPARATION of the 28th National Day celebration, mini flags will be handed out to students and members of the public next week.

At the press conference for the 28th National Day celebration yesterday, Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid Hj Mohd Jafaar, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as the Secretary of the 28th National Day celebration committee, announced that mini table flags will be distributed to students at the primary and lower secondary schools and Islamic teaching institutions on February 14 from 8am onwards.

The main flag-distribution event will be held at Sungai Tali Primary School in Seria, to be officiated by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah.

In Brunei-Muara District, flags will be distributed at Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) College, Chung Hwa Primary School, Delima Satu Primary School and Pengiran Anak Puteri Mutawakillah Hayatul Bolkiah Religious School.

For Tutong District, the event will be held at Tumpuan Telisai Primary School and Mahad Islam Brunei whereas the event will be held at Sultan Hashim Primary School in Batu Apoi for students in Temburong District.

According to Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid, Pehin Dato Hj Hazair will be officiating at a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the start of the National Day celebration on February 12 at 8am, at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex.

Yesterday, a campaign was held at Kg Pandan Community Hall in Belait District to remind and inform the residents to hoist the national flag. 

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hj Mohd Rozan Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yunos was present as the guest of honour where he presented the national flag to 100 selected residents. 

The CYS minister is expected to launch the distribution of mini flags for cars in Temburong District on February 16 at 9am. The event will be held at the Pekan Bangar pier.

To mark the end of the celebration, the flag will be brought down at 12pm of February 27 by Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman.
