BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - A NEW Fire Station is to be built in Tutong by 2013 after the Fire and Rescue Department signed for a $5.8 million complex to be constructed in Kg Bukit Beruang with contractors yesterday.
Director of the Fire and Rescue Department, Yahya Hj Abd Rahman signed the contract on behalf of the department with Kiu Chiong Hing, Managing Director of Selapan Sdn Bhd, the chief contractor.
Witnessing the contract signing was the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs, Roslan Hj Tajaah. Four consultants were slated to participate in the project. PDO Charted Architects, Z-Arif Consultants (Quantity Surveyor) Jumin Marsal Perunding (Civil and Structural) and Sepakat Setia Perunding (Mechanical and Electrical).
The contract also includes accommodation for firemen, consisting of a semi-detached house and a three-story flat which would consist of six units. Each unit was said to have three bedrooms. The site of the project would be situated at the Kg Bukit Beruang housing area, some 12 kilometres away from Pekan Tutong. Previously, the closest fire station to Kg Bukit Beruang would be the station in Pekan Tutong.
Principle Consultant for PDO Chartered Architects, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Othman Pg Hj Omar described the new building to Fire and Rescue Officers yesterday.
He said that the station was built with the most direct and shortest access to the main road. He also said that due to the size and shape of the site, the arrangement of building blocks was somewhat restricted. The station itself is placed on one end of the long and narrow strip of land while on the other end the housing blocks will be built. A 300-seat multipurpose hall was said to be in-between the two blocks. Other structures said to be built include a tower, a electrical sub-station, water pump, water storage and covered carparks.
