BRUNEI-MUARA - IN EFFORTS to promote tennis as a national sport, the Brunei Tennis Club (BTC) over the weekend received 75 students at their centre in Berakas.
Fifteen Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) students visited the centre on Friday, whilst 60 Seri Mulia Sarjana International School kindergarten kids received free basic tennis training the following day.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, Hambali Pehin Dato Hj Mohd Salleh, president of the BTC, said, "These visits are a very welcoming sight not only for the club, but tennis as a whole."
"We want to promote tennis as a sport of choice for Bruneians. The ITB students and kindergarten students looked very interested in tennis, and we hope that this is a starting point for them to come back to BTC to start training with a passion for the sport soon," he continued.
Currently, the BTC, a privately run tennis centre, is working on bringing back old members, and welcoming newcomers.
It recently welcomed its new management committee for 2012/2013, and is looking to work collectively to contribute to the growth of the sport in Brunei.
