Australian Food Fair Opens At Supa Save

Bandar Seri Begawan - Supa Save yesterday launched at its Mabohai branch a two-week Australian Food Fair, whose main theme is `Bringing the freshest of Australia to the market.'

Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Mark Sawers was guest of honour at the launch, which also saw the presence of QAF Brunei CEO Albert Lau and Ben Foods (B) Sdn Bhd General Manager KY Lim.

Speaking to the media, Mr Sawers said the fair excellently demonstrates and emphasises on Australia's best quality products, especially from the agriculture and food industry.

"Australian food is of high quality and standards," he said, before going on to add that, "Most of what we see here, such as the Italian-styled cheese, Greek-styled yogurt and French-styled cheese, shows that globalisation has influenced the innovation of Australian food.

"In ensuring the standards, Australian food operators have sophisticated standards being enforced carefully, and self-regulations to ensure the people involved in the food industry have a very high level of understanding on the standards, and also technical food skills.

"We also do quite a lot of research in standardising the food quality. One of the mediums is the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation that has sophisticated food capabilities.

We use it regularly to determine what is happening in the food sector to ensure the public has a high degree of confidence in the safety and quality of the food.

Mr Sawers later encouraged public members to check out the fair and to try out the wide variety of Australian food and non-food items on offer.

"I believe that most Australian products that can't be found elsewhere can be found at Supa Save," he added.

The two-week fair is set to run till November 24.
